Plans to redevelop two fields behind St Saviour Parish Hall in Jersey may come in significantly under budget, parish officials have said.

The original £3 million project has faced scrutiny from local residents over the cost of certain features, including resin pathways, a brick car park, and 32 parking spaces.

Constable Kevin Lewis said that by switching to more cost-effective materials, the final price could be reduced by around £900,000. He added that parishioners requested more detailed financial information before giving the project the final go-ahead.

“I would be quite happy with a gravel car park or any option that provides the best value for money,” Lewis said.

The constable also confirmed that a proposed bike track would not fit within the current site. “We will look at alternative locations to ensure youngsters have safe and active spaces,” he added.
