A man was reportedly pursued through the streets of east Leicester by an individual armed with a crowbar after being struck by a car in the early hours of Sunday morning.
Police said the victim, a man in his 20s, was taken to hospital after the incident at 1.15am on February 22. He told officers he had been hit by a silver Vauxhall Corsa at the junction of St Saviours Road and Dorothy Road before managing to get to his feet and run towards Moat Road, where he was allegedly chased by a man who exited the vehicle.
According to police, the suspect got out carrying a crowbar and swung it at the victim before returning to the car and driving away. The injured man’s wounds were not believed to be life-threatening or life-changing.
Leicestershire Police said on Monday that a 22-year-old man had been arrested on suspicion of attempting to cause grievous bodily harm with intent following initial enquiries. He has since been released on bail while investigations continue.
Detective Constable Sophie Rowell appealed for witnesses, saying officers believe there may be people with information that could assist the inquiry. She asked anyone who saw what happened, or who has doorbell, CCTV or dashcam footage, to come forward.
Anyone with information is asked to contact police via the force website quoting crime reference number 26*104856, or by calling 101.
